Roosevelt School

Principal's Message

From the Desk of the Principal

Dear Roosevelt School Families,

Welcome to Roosevelt School! As I enter the twelfth year of my administrative career, I do so with a renewed vigor. I am excited to bring the fun back to Roosevelt School as we all eye a return to a more normal school year! Regardless of how the year goes, we will continue to provide a high-quality and engaging education for your child.

This year, a continuing focus will be on social and emotional learning. Community Time will be part of our daily schedule. All teachers and administrators have been trained in Responsive Classroom and Dylan’s Wings of Change. Responsive Classroom is an evidence-based approach to teaching and discipline that focuses on engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness. Dylan’s Wings of Change teaches social skills through activities of team bonding and trust. Student ambassadors from fifth and sixth grade will lead younger students in activities that promote acceptance, inclusion, and empathy for all children.

Character is one of the most important things that we can teach our students. It is my sincere hope that we can celebrate our Roosevelt students and their positive contributions to our community at our beloved family meetings again this year. Our family meetings are very simple. Students and staff who exemplify excellent character, essentially putting others before themselves, are recognized in front of their peers and family members in a school-wide celebration. Recipients are honored with a certificate and a Roosevelt Pride pin. Further, the names of those who are identified for their positive deeds are memorialized on our Roosevelt Pride tree painted by our students. This tradition has sparked a kindness epidemic in our school.

Thank you for taking the time to view our website. Please continue to use our site as a resource to learn about events at school and about our community. I encourage you to support Roosevelt Elementary School by getting involved with the PTO. They are an incredible organization!

My door is always open to current and prospective Roosevelt parents and students.

Please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns at With Roosevelt Pride,

Be Well,

Michael Henzel, Principal
