The River Edge Board of Education is proud to introduce Dr. Nicholas A. Bernice as our new Superintendent of Schools concluding a months-long search for our next educational leader. His start date will be July 1, 2024.
Dr. Bernice comes to River Edge having been recently named the 2024 New Jersey Superintendent of the Year by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA). For the past eight years, Dr. Bernice has led Ringwood Public Schools, holding a dual role as Superintendent and Director of Curriculum. Prior to taking on a superintendent role, he was the Leonia Middle School principal. Under his leadership, the school was honored by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform as a “School to Watch.” He has also served as a vice principal and a high school teacher of science. In addition to being an educational leader, Dr. Bernice serves our nation in the Coast Guard Reserve. He is currently assigned as the Reserve Command Master Chief for the Atlantic area.
