We had so much fun during our Day of Wellness on May 22nd! Thank you to our Wellness Team for planning such an awesome event! We would also like to thank all students, staff, and community members who facilitated incredible wellness stations throughout the day!
Featured here is the third edition of The River Edge Review with features about Wellness Day, supporting multilingual learners, School Board President receiving the Archie F. Hay Award, and recognitions for teachers of the year and retirees!
This e-newsletter summarizes achievements from around the district and recognizes those who go above and beyond.
Congratulations to Eun Kang, president of the River Edge Public Schools Board of Education, on receiving the Archie F. Hay Award.
The Archie F. Hay Award was presented to Mrs. Kang at the River Edge Board of Education meeting on May 22, 2024, to recognize her commitment and leadership to River Edge schools.
This award was established in the mid-1980s by the Bergen County SBA “to honor local board members who exemplify Dr. Archie Hay's leadership in education and his commitment to the children of Bergen County.” Dr. Hay, former Bergen County superintendent, was responsible for setting up the Bergen County Special Education regions and the Special Services School District. “I am honored and privileged to work with such a dedicated, supportive, and student-centered Board President,” said River Edge Business Administrator LuAnne Napolitano.
Mrs. Kang, a former elementary school teacher and mother of two River Edge School students, continues to ensure that our district best supports our students' needs. She has served on the Board since 2018 and has been president since 2021.
Remember those who have sacrificed this Memorial Day 2024.
In October 2023, the River Edge School District was awarded $137,558.19 from the Trees for Schools grant to fund the costs associated with the purchase and planting of trees including planning, site preparation, watering, monitoring and related expenses over a three-year period.
Earlier this week, 42 trees alone were planted at Cherry Hill School with more being planted at Roosevelt School. Thank you to Liz Stewart from the River Edge Shade Tree Commission for her assistance in obtaining this grant. We could not have accomplished this without her help. Our schools now have beautiful color and shade!
At the May 22, 2024, public board meeting, several distinguished members of our school community were honored, including our Teachers of the Year, retirees, and the Stigma-Free Sticker Contest winner. Drs. Murphy and Jaffe, Principal Heitman, and the Director of Curriculum each spoke on behalf of the honorees, highlighting their achievements and dedication.
Special congratulations to Zoie K., the winner of the Stigma-Free Sticker Contest. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our Teachers of the Year for making learning fun and memorable for River Edge students. Although we will miss our retirees, we wish them all the best in their well-deserved retirement.

Fourth graders at Cherry Hill ranked in the international Noetic Learning Math Contest and received the Team Achievement Plaque. They had the 6th highest score among every team that took it – tying with a school in China! Congratulations to all the students and teachers who truly made this achievement a team effort.
During Teacher Appreciation Week, the teachers of River Edge were honored for their dedication and hard work. Celebrations included some "sweet" acknowledgments, showcasing the community's gratitude for the educators' efforts in shaping young minds and providing quality education. Thank you River Edge teachers! We appreciate you!
The second edition of the River Edge Review is here and features Teacher Appreciation week, school safety upgrades, math contest winners, and curriculum writing.
Ms. Linton's Preschool students gave their moms the best gift ever...a special Mother's Day tea with special place settings, homemade cookies, relaxing drinks, and special entertainment. The preschoolers practiced until their performance was perfect! We hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! #preschool #mothersdaytea #riveredgeschools #bergencounty

Cherry Hill and Roosevelt first graders recently visited the River Edge Public Library. During their visits, the first graders met Library staff members, explored different sections of the Library, and participated in an interactive read aloud of a fun book! Thank you, River Edge Public Library for hosting these visits! We had an amazing time and we can’t wait to come back! #riveredgepubliclibrary #firstgrade #riveredgenj
During their Informational Writing Unit in Writing Workshop, K-Rigg students researched different types of animals. Students then worked collaboratively to create informational posters to share about the animals they conducted research for. Students included important information on their posters in the form of various nonfiction text features such as diagrams, fun facts, illustrations with labels, etc. and then students proudly presented their posters. Bravo, K-Rigg Authors!
Cherry Hill students received an upbeat visit from the River Dell Marching Band on a recent sunny Spring day! Each year, the band sets out to visit River Edge and Oradell schools to encourage up-and-coming 7th graders to join the marching band. Students and staff were wowed by their performance. We hope to see some of our River Edge students marching on the field next year!
Last week the River Edge Rebels defeated the Bogert Bombers in a friendly game of softball! Thank you to all the players and spectators for cheering staff on with this great FUNraiser! Although many staff members made some great hits and plays, honorable mentions go out to Mr. Henzel, Mr. Cabrera, and Mr. Werner for clearing the bases! Until next year...Rebels and Bombers!
One child, one teacher, one pen, and one book can change the world!
Thank you River Edge teaching staff for your dedication to our students!

Please save the date for our One Community, Many Stories Event on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Roosevelt School New Gym to celebrate our River Edge community. There will be music, food, dance, and fun! We look forward to seeing everyone!
Last week, Cherry Hill and Roosevelt Schools were buzzing with visitors for Take Your Child to Work Day! Some of our special guests taught lessons, made crafts, and took part in many fun games and activities throughout the day! The last activity was the best by far...a scavenger hunt that brought everyone to Dr. Murphy's office. Dr. Murphy described himself as "the person who calls snow days!" This was such a great opportunity for everyone to see firsthand what mom/dad does all day at work! Thanks for visiting!!! #byctwd #riveredgeschools #riveredgenj #funforeveryone #bergencounty #bringyourchildtoworkday
